Hi everyone,

I am having some problems runnig julian.exe under Vista. The recognizer is too slow and it sometimes freezes my application. Is someone here using any version of VoxForge under Vista?

I had it the first time I ran it under XP. (I don't use Windows anymore so I can't  tell you about how it is now.)

Which version are you running?

Hi Dano

Well, I ran the last version found in http://www.repository.voxforge1.org/downloads/Nightly_Builds/?M=D

and the stable version avaible at "Downloads" link. All the same. Vista gets incredible slow and I have to ctrl+alt+del julian.exe. But widows xp worked just fine with me. At my opinion, better than linux.

Hi jeffersoncarvalho,

"Vista gets incredible slow" - I made a similar experience.  If you're running Vista, you should have at least 2 GB RAM, and a good dual core processor.  In my opinion, Windows XP is the better alternative if you are using just a single core processor.

My opinion:
Best operating system: Windows XP
Second best operating system: Ubuntu Linux 8.04 because it runs also on old hardware
Not convincing: Windows Vista

Vista gets incredible slow - when he starts the application.

I don't want to start a discussion about what is the best OS. A freezing application is often not the fault of the OS.

Hi everyone

Hardware is not a problem for me. I have 3GB or RAM and a quad core processor. I think Vista really crashes some programs, specially the old ones.

As Dano said, I don't want to begin a useless discution about  Vista OS and its faults. But it is a pity since I can't run julian.exe under Vista.

Maybe if I try some kind of emulation.

I don't know if it will work, but you can try new versions of Julius.

If you use Ubuntu here is a tutorial: http://bloc.eurion.net/archives/2008/writing-a-command-and-control-application-with-voice-recognition/

If you want just the precompiled version

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.jp/julius/31291/julius-4.0.2-linuxbin.tar.gz

By the way, should we not replace the nightly build of quickstart-julius with 4.0.2?
