VoxForge
Can we please update the recording process to not use Java. It is 2013 and Java has had so many exploits of late it is no longer recommended to disable it in browsers but actually disabled automatically by Mozilla in Firefox.
Also I think the avocacy of this projects also needs a notch up as it appears the last news item is from June 2011
Don't let this project die. There is still a need for free and open speech corpus!!!

My understanding is that it is the Java browser plugin that is the issue, not Java itself, and that Oracle has been very slow in addressing this problem.
As a workaround, Firefox has set Java as click-to-play so that a java program embeded on a website does not run without the user's knowledge. From the Firefox site:
to protect Firefox users we have enabled Click To Play for recent versions of Java on all platforms (Java 7u9, 7u10, 6u37, 6u38). Firefox users with older versions of Java are already protected by existing plugin blocking or Click To Play defenses.
Not sure about Chrome.
It is still a good idea to disable the Java plugin from your browser after having uploaded speech to the VoxForge site.

The server end for the voxforge applet uses php server code from the postlet applet site: http://postlet.com/scripts/
Here is the source for the voxforge version of the server code:

I am travelling now, and will be home in a week, and can set up a test environment for you when I get back.
