VoxForge
Hi all,
I would like to know how I could be of more help apart from 'giving my voice' to the VoxForge project.
I''ve found some grammar errors on our pages and I'd truly like to help improving the site. Also, I could be of help when needing to check and approve/reject the uploaded voices.
My main languages are Spanish and Italian.
Have a nice day,
Davide.
I'd like to contribute in the website developement, so we can get the project to more people. I know this is not direct development, but I guess the same program devs are the same ones of the page, so it can be a good addition to remove some workload from devs.
I'm
not a programmer, although I understand and can write PHP and
MySQL. My main experience is community management, learnt by almost 7 years working on STALKERHispano Community.
My purpose would be to rework the VoxForge site and try to get in touch with all the users. Of course, I'd also like to help by reviewing the voice submissions in Spanish and Italian.
Have a nice day!
Hi Dade,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
>rework the VoxForge site and try to get in touch with all the users.
That would be greatly appreciated!
What do you recommend or need from me to get started?
thanks,
Ken
Hello Ken,
don't worry about delays, we all have jobs, studies or families to care about :)
I actually dont think I need anything right now, since I dont deserve any particular privilege. I'd rather prefer to work on my local server and post here the results, so you guys could take a decision.
Before starting, I'd like to know if the following ideas will be accepted:
I think thats almost all, I'll wait your green light and finish my exams to start with it .
Thanks for your time,
Davide
Hi Davide,
>Use an OpenSource CMS
for better or worse, we use WebGUI
>Replicate the actual multilingual contect and sections structure.
not sure what you mean
>Theme the site and possibly make it responsive
if you can create a good theme, we can implement it
>Improve site performance, keeping Google Scores higher than 85/100 and YSLow on A
any help on this would be greatly appreciated
Ken
Hello Ken,
I'd like to know if the WebGUI is a must or it can be switched to another CMS if I can duplicate the whole site and features on it (including the various language content).
Thanks for your time,
Davide.
>I'd like to know if the WebGUI is a must
No - I'm not married to WebGUI.
But I'm not too enthused about the effort required to transfer the site to another CMS, especially since the main purpose of VoxForge is to collect speech - how it is presented is secondary... I've got lots of other issues that are more important to tackle right now... :)
>or it can be switched to another CMS if I can duplicate the whole site and

If you can create a simple prototype of what it might look like (structure/functionality), we can discuss pros and cons and figure out effort, then we can make a decision based on that.
thanks,
Ken
I will try to go on with the prototype and see if we can do something.
Regarding the issue you mentioned, is there a problem with the submissions or the reviews? What you exactly need?
Thanks for your time,
Davide.
Hello all again,
good news! The prototype is finally operational and anyone can freely access it at THIS URL http://vox.stalkerhispano.com !!
This early prototype just have a Homepage, Forums and About Us pages (the rest are plain text on the menu as guide) to just test the feel and look of the site, as well as the multilingual features (english and spanish available).
As you can see by the attached file, I had achieved 99/100 Google Page Speed and 96/100 YSlow Scores, with a 'lower than second' page load time without making use of cache.
That's all for now, I really hope you all like it because I'm really excited on keep helping with this (and I really think I am doing it well ).
Thanks for your time,
Davide
