Yes, speech recognition with the Hebrew language should be possible. Here is what you can do:

1. Install HTK (you need to register).

2. Install simon.

3. Import the sample Hebrew dictionary.

Ralf

Thanks for the reply,

As i can see, the option is to define hebrew words with english phonetic trascripition thus describing the word

Hello as he lo, or something to that matter..

That might work a little for hebrew, but not very well..

since Hebrew is very diffrent than english, even has some sound that dont exist in english like  ח (if you know hebrew..).

Therefore, this probably will not work very good...

Is there a way to define new phonetic transcriptions that are in hebrew ?

Again, thanks alot for the help.

Let me refine my question.

What are the supported phonemes ?

As i understand there is an international list that contains all sounds.

I could not find a list of supported phonemes, if i knew what they are i might be able to find the sounds i need..

thanks a lot

Hi Talarari,

"Hebrew is very diffrent than english"
- That is not a problem. You need a good Hebrew pronounciation dictionary. I suggest that you start building your own dictionary. Then you know the phonemes that you are using. You can build the dictionary with your own dialect.

I could build a Hebrew speech model (acoustic model / language model) with simon. The Hebrew speech model is stored in HTK format. The PLS dictionary has been converted into HTK compatible format.

The concept works. Currently, there is only one problem: the missing output. I hope that this issue will be fixed.

If you want results, you need a pronunciation dictionary. You have to try.

Use the following five vowel phonemes:

a e i o u - they can be imported into simon, no problem.

Use the following consonant phonemes:

m n p b t d k g ts f v s z ʃ ʒ x R h

Use r instead of ʁ.

Use these consonants: j l

Is an important Hebrew phoneme missing?

Thanks to the German PLS dictionary I could dictate with simon. You can try to achieve the same result with Hebrew.

Regards,
Ralf

Hello! Recently, I tried to recognize a Hebrew word with Simon after importing Ralf's Hebrew dictionary. It would be interesting to know if it works on a "Hebrew" computer. My computer isn't localized for Hebrew.
