I don't see it was discussed somewhere btw, it would be nice to have a recommended reading page/thread. It would be nice to have a few documents that can get newbie into speech technology quickly. For a start I suggest to use David Gelbart's collection:

  http://www.icsi.berkeley.edu/~gelbart/edu.html

But the question is a bit different, what resources do you use to track recent news in speech technologies? Probably some feed or blog is a good place to read.  Something like

  http://www.speechtechblog.com

 for example

Hi nsh,

I just use Google alerts using the following keywords:

  • "speech recognition"
  • sphinx cmu
  • htk
  • "acoustic model"
  • "speech corpus"
  • "speech corpora"
  • julius speech recognition
  • voxforge
And if anything interesting pops up, I put it in the News forum.

Hi nsh,

On the dev page, under documentation:

Speech Recognition Books/OpenCourseware

I will add your links,

Ken and I have moved the recommended reading list at http://www.icsi.berkeley.edu/~gelbart/edu.html to a new location in the VoxForge wiki:

http://www.dev.voxforge.org/projects/Main/wiki/TheoryAndAlgorithms

The old location still works, for now, but the list there is not as up to date as the one in the wiki.

Oh, and on that wiki page I just added two links to phonetics tutorials and a recommendation for a phonetics book.
