An Acoustic Model is only as good as the speech audio that was used to generate it. The prompts files used in VoxForge help to ensure that we get a good coverage of all the different phonemes in the English Language. In addition, we also need good coverage of English speech dialects - because people of different regions sometimes pronounce the same words differently.
Note that your pronunciation dialect may be different than where you currently live (if you were raised in one region and currently live in another).
Wikipedia defines the following list of dialects that we will use to help categorize the speech we receive:
United States
- General American English - main dialect; if you are unsure of which regional dialect you should use, use this one.
- Eastern New England
- New York City and northern New Jersey
