Hi,

I was unable to test julius installation at the prompt as directed but when I typed julian,it gave the version.

Was there any error or are 'julius' and 'julian' commands the same

Hi rovira74,

Julian is the grammar-based recognizer version of Julius.  Julian is used for Command and Control recognition.  Julius is used for dictation.

You get a Julian executable by setting some configuration switches ("--enable-julian") when you compile Julius.

I experienced the opposite of what rovira74 experienced. I was unable to test julian installation at the prompt as directed but when I typed julius,it gave the version. What is used for speech recognition with HTK model, julian or julius?

Thanks.

Hi amza,

Julian is used by the tutorial.  It is a version of Julius for command and control (grammar based) speech recognition.  It uses acoustic models created with HTK.

From http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.jp/julius/47534/Juliusbook-4.1.5.pdf

A.2 Changes from 3.5.3 to 4.0

Compatibility issues:

• Julian was merged to Julius. No change for usage, just swap julian to julius.
